The 30 Year-Old Intern
Tuesday, June 15 Well, 29. Anyway, in a move usually reserved for the freshly graduated or students on hiatus I’ve done it. I’ve secured myself as an intern. I’ll be taking up residence for the next 90 days in a 70%-of-usual-size desk in what’s called the “creative pit” at Wirestone’s Boise offices. Admittedly, the move is a bit odd for someone at the dawn of their third decade but I’m through playing chicken with the economy. Any and all opportunities to work at a company that promotes creativity, learning, and fun will be taken at full steam.
COO and co-founder of Wirestone Tony Schlangen sent the following email was sent out yesterday to introduce me to the company.

Team,
I am thrilled to announce a new motion design intern who started in Boise today and will be with us in an intern capacity over the next 90 days. I asked him to write up a little bio that I could share with you which I have provided below. Tim Cox is his champion and Andrew may potentially get assigned to one of your projects. Please contact Tim if you’re interested in securing his time.
We are lucky to have Andrew onboard. He has much to offer and I think it says a lot about his drive and confidence to agree to sign up and show us what he’s made of. I have high, high hopes for Andrew and hope you each get an opportunity to work with him in the near future.
Welcome aboard Andrew!
“Andrew Agalsoff comes from a long line of “movie people” and he’s been interested in the film/video production since he was a child. He received his bachelors from the University of Idaho with a degrees in English and Spanish and a minor in Visual Communication emphasizing film. After college he began his career in Boise at several television stations and eventually became a Creative Services Producer. Opportunity called him to Tucson Arizona where he began working as a Creative for Apple Retail. After being an instructor for almost a year he moved back to Boise to work for Apple technical support while freelancing at several local advertising agencies as a technology and social media consultant and copywriter. At the same time he became one of the founding members of the Boise Cutters, Idaho’s only Final Cut Pro user group along with Wirestone co-founder Tony Schlangen. Andrew has experience in live sports, local and nationally broadcast television, and feature film production in various capacities. He loves photography, editing video and finding the newest internet memes to pass along before anyone else to make him appear cool and in-tune with modern culture. He’s come to Wirestone to learn more about 3D and motion graphics. A self-proclaimed “new-media geek”, he is also an avid carnivore and spends equal time grilling and sleeping during the summer months.”

For the next three months I’ll be learning to work within Cinema 4D and After Effects as well as assisting on video productions that are becoming more frequently needed. The people here are intelligent and well-intentioned. That’s something I was missing at my last job so I’m happy to be back in a place that cultivates personal growth rather than simply assimilating people to “the machine”. I’m thrilled to be a part of the Wirestone team and I’ll be doing everything in my power to stick around after the completion of the internship.
