#IB4 and Crowd-sourced Asshole'dness
Wednesday, April 28 Ignite Boise 4 was once again the triumph that I expected it to be. Passionate members of the community came together to hear local presenters drop knowledge. The presentations ranged from the current definition variances between “nerd” and “geek”, to one participant’s view that our contemporary government is far too large to be affective. Twitter was aflutter in the crowd. People were excited. People were nervous. And some people were assholes.
I’m not sure why some people took advantage of the laid-back format. Maybe they thought IB3 was too boring?? Maybe transference finally took hold of their feelings of parental abandonment. Maybe they brought a hip-flask. In any case, it was disappointing and I’m hoping it won’t continue.
The next local incarnation of the Ignite series is set for October 21st and I’m already planning on attending. I will be excited. I will be posting furiously to Twitter (though I may have moved on to Tumblr by then). I will be respectful of the opinions of those presenting and the of the crowd. I’m hoping that the positive vibe that I experienced at the first Ignite Boise event will be back and that the dicks that decided to interrupt IB4 will instead choose to present their thoughts on stage.
